The Role of Learning Advocates and Learning Supporters
LEARNING ADVOCATES Learning Advocates are employees in non-unionised companies who’ve been trained in information and advice skills in order to encourage and support work colleagues back into learning. These are the basics of the Learning Advocates role- Identifying colleagues learning needs.
- Providing information and advice about learning opportunities and different ways of learning.
- Helping to remove barriers to learning.
- Developing an awareness of local learning opportunities and other sources of advice and guidance.
- Gathering and organising learning information.
- Promoting a learning culture within the workplace by:
- Displaying information about learning opportunities. Advocates will place particular emphasis on promoting literacy/numeracy courses and the Train to Gain initiative.
- Displaying information about learning campaigns eg Adult Learners Week, Learning at Work Day and The Skills Pledge.
- Working with employers to plan and organise learning and skills programmes.
